The Former Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, addressing a gathering of men's associations at Grimsby, declared that the period of facile, dangerous illusion had ended. Britons were aware of the issue confronting them and the nature of forces unleashed, he continued. Peace depended on the determination of. Britain’s leadership and the vigour of its action. Therefore, the people's message to the leaders was blunt and urgent, namely: The time for argument is past. These are not days for bickering, delays and hesitation. There has been enough of that. “Unite now. Act now. Waste not an hour. Act and so convince the world that Britain is awake and in earnest.”
