FRIENDLY CIRCLE CHOIR

ANNUAL MEETING HELD ACTIVE YEAR REVIEWED At tins .annual meeting of the Friendly Circle Choir held during the week, an active and successful year was reviewed toy the conductor, Mr. ,f. Carrington Welilby. Three concerts were given, one in aid of the Kopuawhara flood relief fund and two in conjunction with the Salvation Army, while assistance was given to the Diggers’ Choir in a concert in the Opera House for the Pv.S.A. Christmas box fund. The choir also took part in the Competitions, gaining second place to the Methodist Choir. The following new works were added to the library during the year: “Fairy Chorus” ‘'McLeod’s “Immortal Hour”), "O Tasite and See” (Goss'), "The Revenge” (C. V. Stanford), "Choral Fantasia" from “Tannhauser” (Wagner), and “The Mine-sweepers” (Elgar). Thanks were expressed to -Mr. D. Dyer for the donation of 14 copies of “The Revenge,” -to Knox Church for the loan of “St. -Paul” (Mendelssohn) and “Crucifixion” (Stainer), and to others who made donations to the music' lund. . , , , Enjoyable social functions were held during' the year, including those with the Diggers’ Choir, while the choir members were the guests of the Cosmopolitan Club at a concert in which the Diggers’ Choir, conducted by Mr. Wel'ltov, was taking part. As a windup .for the year a dinner was held at the British Empire Hotel, and presentations were made to the pianist, Mrs. T H. Berry, and .the choirmaster. It was decided to hold the weekly practices on Monday evenings this year. Owing to the loss of a number of members .at the -end of last year, it was found necessary to build the choir up again. The average membership last year was 26, which rose to 32 during the Competitions season. The election of officers resulted:— Choirmaster, Mr. J. Carrington Wellby; pianist, Mrs. T. H. Berry; librarian, Mr. J. Aston,; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. D. Barron.
