A Bratislava communique states that the Siovak troops put up a stiff tight against. the Hungarian invaders, Slovak airmen .machine-gunned the Hungarians and put two battalions to flight. Aircrafit continued to patrol the area after dark, using flares. Many Hungarians were kilted or wounded. The Slovak Defence Ministry issued a communique stating that Hungarian troops /invaded Slovakia in three columns, totalling lour infantry battalions, one .bicycle company and one motorised regiment, including tanks at 5.30 a.m. The Hungarians had penetrated deeply, hut at 2.30 p.m. the advance was stopped and could probably be held pending reinforcements. It is officially stated in Budapest that Slovakia protested, pointing out that Hungarian troops were intruding in Slovak territory. The Hungarian Foreign Minister promised an investigation. He added .that Slovakia's eastern frontier was not defined exactly. There was thus the possibility of local incidents, but there was no question of organised military operations. A communique issued m Budapest declares that ithe reports that Hungarians are operating at Germany's invitation or acquiescence are not true.
