CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

WIN FOR THOMPSON HANDICAP TO FISCHBACH The Gisborne Chess Club's championship was won by R. J. Thompson, who went through without any losses, while L. C. Meredith was run-ner-up with only one loss. The sealed handicap tournament was won by Paul Fischbach, who secured a substantial number of points over Thompson, next on the list, while C. A. Lawn was placed third. The leading scorers are shown in the following table:—

The past season was shorter than usual, but arrangements are being made to open the coming season seven weeks earlier than last year, and entries for all events are invited early, as a big programme is anticipated. The annual meeting is set down for to-morrow evening.
