ALARM AT WOOLWICH
TERRIFIC EXPLOSIONS ARMY SCHOOL OP SCIENCE TROOPS GUARD ARSENAL (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. March 25, 9 a.m.) LONDON, March 24. Troops were hastily called out to guard the Woolwich Arsenal early this morning following a series of terrific explosions due to the bursting of oxygen cylinders in the medical store shed of the Royal Military College of Science, near Woolwich Common. The shed caught fire and was completely destroyed, but no other buildings were involved. Firemen had narrow escapes from flying metal. The explosions continued for over 30 minutes, accompanied by vivid Hashes which lit up the neighbourhood. Windows over a wide area were shattered. It is explained that there is no reason to suspect sabotage.
