Women's World THE DAILY ROUND

Tribute to a Prominent Social , Worker In the March issue of Brand) Bui-, letin, the official organ of the Christchurch branch of the National Coun- ; cil of Women, there is an article entitled "In Memorium," a tribute to, the late Mrs. (Fraer, Christchurch, | a prominent member of the N.C.W. j and an active worker in many good, social causes. j Extracts from the article are as! follow: —"Our local papers will re-' call all Mrs. Fraer's many achievements in public service and service for all; first as a vicar's wife in several Maori districts, president of the Mothers' Union, and leader and organiser of endless activities. To us, the National Council of Women of New Zealand, 'Mrs. Fraer always will remain in our memories as an outstanding Dominion president and a most able and beloved representative of the New Zealand council at overseas conferences —a leader full of knowledge, of wisdom, and one with an exceptionally large-minded comprehension of international as well as national problems where women are concerned. .

"As a girl she spent many years on the Continent of Europe, and her intimate knowledge of the thought and ways of living of other nations kept that wide international outlook very alive in all her afterlife's activities here in this far-away Dominion. "Fifteen years ago when I had just returned from a visit to Great Britain, Mrs. Fraer one day not Only invited me. but told me it was my duty, to join the National Council of Women of Christchurch as an associate member; she was then its local president. To-day when I

urge others to join us I often wish I had that wonderful gift of making others sec what she made me see: The vision of a nationally united band of women, using their modern privilege of partnership .in the affairs of humanity to further the material, intellectual, moral and

piritual welfare of their own sex

Those of us who of late years have been called to take part in women's activities in our city or in the country will agree with me that no one gave more helpful and kindly advice than. Mrs. Fraer. Of late, as the result of illness, .she was not able ito take as active a part in the life of the city as she would have liked to do. but I believe, if the truth were known, that to-day many women in Christchurch, on hearing of her passing will not only remember the help she gave them in times of distress, or her outstanding services to the community, but the never-failing support, advice and inspiration she gave those who needed her experience when difficult problems had to be tackled. "Last month we remembered with sorrow .Miss Chaplin's going); this month Mrs. Fraer has left us. Their presence in our midst will be missed over and over again, but their work for the cause of women in particular has not ended. They held the torch high, and by its light others were kindled who in their turn will carry it fully alight until their task, too, is finished. "I like to think Mrs. Fraer herself would be glad that up to the very end—to within a few hours of her going—she showed that personal and active interest in the work of women for women the world over by her presence at that gathering yesterday afternoon. And now wo must bid her farewell, our gratitude and our love are tiers, and will follow her to that unseen realm where, no doubt, higher service awaits her."
