MANUTUKE SALE OF WORK

PARISH FUNDS BENEFIT (Herald Correspondent.) A very suceessiul sale of work was held yesterday to assist (lie Mmutuke parish funds. This function, which is an annual one, was a financial success, £2B being cleared, compared with £24 lasi year. The function was declared open by the Rev. W. P. Mataira, who later in the evening thanked the many willing helpers for their assistance. He asked Miss D. Taylor, of the Mission House, to convey from him and the Maoris of the district their appreciation of the action of the many European friends who had assisted to make the sale a success.

Stall-holders were:—Jumble, Mesdames T. Preston, T. Porter, D. Dunn, and Miss Hopley; sale of work, Mesdames R. Sherratt (Palutahi), D. Blair (Gisborne), and P. He Ilau; sweets, Mrs. R. Pomana; oddities, Mrs. R. Brown and Miss E. Busckc; vegetables and meat, Messrs. 11. Pohatu and O. Porter; afternoon tea, Mr. W. Runt and Mesdamcs M. Whailiri and W. Rangi.

As a "wind up" to the gathering a euchre tournament was held, there being a fair attendance. The prizewinners were: —Ladies. —Mrs. R. Poinana, 1: Mrs. 11. Pohatu, 2; Miss Marie Brown, 3. Men.—Mr. N. Thompson, 1: Mr. P. Nepia, 2; Mr. S. Williams, 3.
