SCHOOL AFFAIRS
TE KARAKA DISTRICT HIGH (Herald Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Te Karaka District High School Committee was held recently, when tlieic weie present Mr. C. Mills, chairman, Mrs. R. Stephenson, Messrs. T. M. Askew, T. L. Earns haw, C. G. Atkins, J. W. Nisbett, S. S. Smithers and P. Hardacre. The headmaster, Mr. R. N. Grono. was also in attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr. R. Stephenson. A letter received from the Health Department stated' that everything possible was being done in regard to the measles epidemic. It was reported that the interbuilding telephone service would be ready for use when the machines were obtained from Gisborne. The secretary was instructed to obtain four loads of top-dressing for the tennis courts and to arrange for the use of a roller. The need; for an incinerator was discussed and .it was decided to ask the Education Board to supply one. The headmaster’s report stated, inter alia, that excellent work had been done in the teaching of swimming during the month, particularly in the secondary department. He considered that a shower bath in the grounds would be a great asset to the school. A vote of thanks was passed to the staff for their co-operation in the physical fitness display. Messrs. C. G. Atkins and S. _S. Smithers were appointed a visiting committee for this month.
