OIL IN SCOTLAND

THE YIELD AT DALKEITH INCREASED INTEREST Much interest is being shown ' in commercial circles in the success of oil boring in Scotland, 1 says - • the Daily Telegraph and Morning Post. It has become known that the production of oil from the Anglo-Amei ican Company’s experimental well at Dalkeith, Midlothian, is now approaching 1000 gallons a day. In consequence it is expected that a num-. ber of companies will apply licenses to prospect the Midlothian ridge. The first “strike” occurred on June 27, and the oil comes from oil Sands' at 1733 to 1760 feet below the surface. Analysis lias established it to be of good quality and rather heavy. The first substantial consignment of oil has been transported from Dalkeith to Essex for refining.

Although it is vet early to set commercial values on the developments, representatives of companies interested have been conducting considerable research in the locality. Some of these have made inquiries in Fifeshire. , . . Companies reported to be interested besides the Anglo-American Oil Company, Limited, include the Gulf Exploration Company, Limited, of London, which is simultaneously boring at Broughton, near Stokesley, North Yorkshire, and the . AngloIranian Oil Company, Limited, which was the first to prospect in the Dal-., keith districtThe Anglo-IranLan Company is reported to own prospecting rights for a considerable stretch of land, and the Anglo-American Company. is understood to be making a wider search on both sides of 'the Firth of Forth. By the terms of the Petroleum Production Bill the property in petroleum is vested in the Crown, and licenses for prosnecting are granted through the Board of Trade.
