HUIISTVILLE BY-EUECTION (Reed. March 23, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 22. The allocation of preferences at the Hurstville by-election gave Mr. Clive Evatt, the Heffron Labour candidate, the victory by 5542 votes over the United Australia Party candidate, Dr. Thomas. At the last general election the United Australia Party candidate, the late Dr. Webb polled 11,403 votes against 8982 cast for his Labour Party opponent.
