BLACK THREAD SPRINTS BRILLIANT HALF-MILE GOOD EFFORT BY OKAWA R A ANA AND PIRIPI By “Trenton” The outstanding gallop at the Gisborne track this morning was a brilliant half-mile in 48sec. by Black Thread. Black Thread, carrying about 9.0, jumped off at the four-furlong peg on the course proper in company with Okawa, who had a light boy in the saddle. The former had the outside running and was not fully extended at the end. Although Black Thread’s effort was outstanding, it was also a good gallop by Okawa. Plans for Black Thread have been altered and together with Raana and Pennycomequick he probably will go to Hawke’s Bay at the end of this month. Bold Step and Reay Bridge took for five furlongs, the former going slightly the better. Mimicry was under a steady pull to finish on terms with plenteous over half a mile on the plough in 51sec. Minnow, Raana and Pennycomequick jumped off in that order to run a mile. Raana came home strongly just ahead of Minnow, with Pennycomequick tailed off. The time, lmin. 43 2-ssec., was good and Raana is improving with every gallop. Royal Welcome, Whakao, Miss Blue, Millions and Comedy Cook were restricted to pace work. Schooling Round Piripi and Small Boy were sent over a round of five fences. The former outjumped his companion until Small Ijoy lost an iron approaching the last fence and was pulled up. Piripi gave a good exhibition of fast, clean jumping, but was tiring at the end. Small Boy jumped slovenly.
