Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, March 19. The Prime Minister. Mr. Neville Chamberlain, and leading members 01 the Cabinet remained in London to keep in touch with developments arising put of the grave European crisis and the King and Queen this afternoon returnd from Windsor. Less than an hour after the arrival of their Majesties, Mr. Chamberlain was received by the King. The Central European situation is to be the subject of a statement in the House of. Commons to-morrow, when a number of questions concerning the matter will be asked Mr. Chamberlain. The subject is tc be debated by the House of Lords when the Foreign Secretary, Viscount Halifax, will contribute an important speech. The situation regarding Rumania awaits clarification. As is known, the Rumanian Government is engaged »: commercial negotiations with representatives of the German Government in Bucharest. Pending a statement on behalf of the Rumanian Government following these negotiations, comment on Rumania's attitude towards the crisis is regarded in London as premature. About 300 people cheered Mr. Chamberlain, when he left Numbe* 10 Downing street for the audience with the King, but the crowds at the palace did not notice his arrival a li D.m. Mr. Chamberlain acquainted His Majesty with the latest developments. After an audience lasting for an hour, Mr. Chamberlain returned to Number 10. Tile statements to be made by Mr. Chamberlain and Lord Halifax tomorrow will give the Government's considered opinion of the situation and reveal why the Cabinet was .summoned yesterday, and the British Ambassador to Berlin, Sir Nevile Henderson, and the German Ambassador to Britain, Dr. von Dircksen were recalled. A German news agency in London has been authorised to deny that Germany issued an ultimatum to Rumania.
