SWIMMING

ALAN DeCOSTA CUP COMPETITION POINTS A field of eight swimmers started in the surf race conducted by the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimmin;: Club at the Waikanae Beach during the week-end. The event resulted as follows: —J. Thompson, 1; D. Lange, 2: T. Wauchop. 3. The competitors had to swim through a heavy surf. The race was one of a series for the Alan DeCosta Cup, and the competition, which has extended over the swimming season, has reached its final stages. In the points for the trophy D. Lange and J. Thompson have established a good lead and the issue will'be decided in the concluding event next week-end. The competition points stand as fallows.—J. Thompson 32, D. Lange 31. K. Morse 22, D. Caldwell 20, A. Banfield and ft. Read 16, T. Fairweather 14, .and T. Wauchop 10.
