RUTHENIAN FIGHT
HUNGARIAN ADVANCE RESISTANCE IN MOUNTAINS REFUGEES IN RUMANIA ALLEGATION OF MURDERS (Reed. Mar. 20, 11.50 a.m.) * LONDON, March 19. A report from Budapest says that the Hungarian advance into Ruthenia proceeds according to plan. The Regent, Admiral Horthy, is touring part of Ruthenia. Dr. Perovusnik is reported to have abandoned the organisation of Ruthenian resistance and has fled to Poland. The Hungarian troops have reached the border of Poland at Tatarhago. The Hungarians secured all the Ruthenian archives left in M. Volosin’s ear when he fled from the country. A report from Bucharest says that 9000 refugees have entered Rumania from Ruthenia. They declare that the Hungarian guards shot dead Dr. Cocerham, the former Ruthenian Secretary of State, and Dr. Slavacek, the public prosecutor of the Selvus district. The newspaper Romani declares that 70 Czech soldiers were wounded in fighting against Ruthenian guards. The report adds that the Hungarians,' although aided by planes, are encountering great difficulty and have not occupied Chust. . The Ruthenian resistance to the Hungarians is stiffening in the mountains. A desperate battle is in pro gress near Perecsey, north of Chust. German troops a&e reported to be continuing the march to Ruthenia, but it is also stated that Germany gave an assurance that the march would halt at the Rumanian frontier. Hungary and Poland have begun political and military talks aimed, at strengthening the security of the joint frontier. Bucharest reports that Rumania has rejected Ruthenia’s proposal for her incorporation with Rumania.
