POLO TOURNAMENT

SPORT AT BUSHMERE INTERESTING' SERIES An interesting series of polo matches was played yesterday on the Bushmere grounds in an annual tournament held by the Poverty Bay Polo Club. Keen interest was taken in the sport by a number of spectators weighing up the chances of the teams to take part to-day in the cup events. The umpires were Messrs. G. M. Reynolds and J. Monckton. Following are the results:— Poverty Bay (handicap 10» 10 d. Poverty Bay B (scr.) 7. Poverty Bay D (14) If) d. Poverty Bay A (scr.) 8. In’*the first match of the afternoon the C team held the B’s in the first chukka, and the scratch team was unable to get a leg-in. However, A. Kirkpatrick scored two nice goals in the second and G. Gregory took the score to 10—3 before the spell. In the remainder of the game J. Jobson shot two goals, Kirkpatrick scored again, and Gregory took the total to seven. The A team was set a hard task when they met Poverty Bay D. which team had a handicap of 14 goals. G. Gaddum and Wyn. Sherratt were the main scorers, the former accounting for four of his team's score, and Sherratt for three. Sherratt registered a nice goal from a free hit 60yds. out in the field. R. Reynolds also shot a goal. For the D team, H. Williams scored to make the final 15—8 in his team’s favour.
