The establishment of a reserve of members of the Australian Imperial Forces and former members ol' the British and other Dominion armies La raise the front-line units from the peace lo war establishment on mobilisation lias been approved by the Federal Ministry. A Canberra report states that Australia’s new standing army is being raised. The first section of it. which has been approved by the Cabinet, will be fully mechanised. The Minister of Defence, Mr. G. A. Street, revealed that the ultimate peacetime establishment of 7500 troops would involve an increase in the case of war to a strength of between 9000 and 10,000 men.
