BETRAYAL CHARGE
PLIGHT OF RUTHENIA TRAGIC CHUST FIGHTING MISSION TO HUNGARY REQUEST FOR AUTONOMY (Klee. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Reed. Mar. 18, 12 noon) LONDON, Mar. 17. A Budapest message states that the Ruthenian Premier ,M. Volosin, in an interview said: "The Germans betrayed us. They acted against the nationality principle. Germany advised u,s not to resist, so we handed over the country, but the population resists.” It is revealed that several hundred were killed in fighting at Chust. A member of the Ruthenian Cabinet, M. Brascalkov, left to-day for Budapest to negotiate for autonomy.
M. Volosin. If he is unsuccessful M. Volosin and other members of the Cabinet probably will go to Yugoslavia. M. Volosin telephoned to Berlin and asked Germany to use her influence with Hungary to grant Car-patho-Ukraine autonomy. Messages from Bucharest state that newspapers allege Rumanians in Ruthenia are suffering from the recent events and have appealed for help. Tt is reported that heavy fighting occurred between Hungarians and Ruthenians. Bands of terrorists are looting villages and trains.
