The autumn meeting of the Wellington Racing Club was opened at Trentham yesterday in fine, warm weather The track was in excellent order though not so fast as usual. There was a slight increase in the gates and a substantial increase in the totalisator turnover, the figures, £49,191, being £7589 ahead of the first day at the last autumn meeting. The judicial committee during the day met and decided that Great Quex, who broke through the barrier twice and eventually was withdrawn, be recommended for immediate inclusion in the schooling list. An inquiry was held into Ruling Star losing his position in the early stages of the Trial Plate. The explanation of the jockey, W. J. Broughton, that it was due to being squeezed back, was accepted. An inquiry into the interference met by Rakahanga and other horses in the first furlong of the Railway Handicap was adjourned till to-day.
