PIONEER SETTLER LINK WITH DENMARK The death in Auckland on March 6 of Mrs. Anne Sine Nelson at her residence in Wairiki road, Mt. Eden, has further depleted the ranks of early Danish settlers in the Dominion, Mrs. Nelson having arrived in New Zealand from her homeland in 1875, Mrs. Nelson, who travelled to her new home in the vessel Reisboy, was married in Wellington to Mr. Neil C. Nelson, the couple celebrating their diamond wedding in September last.

Living alternately in Wellington, Palmerston North and Te Aroha, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson lately have been living in retirement in Mt. Eden. The deceased ip survived by her husband, four daughters, Mrs. T Coker, Tauranga, Mrs. S. Cox, Hamilton, Mrs. F. Logan, Auckland, and Miss S. M. Nelson, Auckland, three sons, Mr. J. H. Nelson, Bournemouth, England, Mr. J. G. T. Nelson, Auckland, and Mr. F. W. Nelson, Gisborne. There are 14 grandchildren.

DEATH OF ATHLETE NOTED LEAGUE PLAYER (Elcc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Mar. 14, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Mar. 13. The death of Stuart Prosser, a noted Rugby League player has occurred. MR, WILLIAM TAN One of the best known and most highly respected members of the Chinese community in Gisborne, Mr. William Tan, died in the Cook Hospital to-day, aged 63 years. Mr. Tan was a native of Canton and had spent the greater portion of his life in New Zealand. Thirty years ago he opened a shop in Gisborne, 'being the first Chinese fruiterer here. He took an active interest in the welfare of the Chinese of the town. The deceased had been in failing health for the past five years. He is survived by a widow and one daughter, who reside in China, while Mr. Arthur Tan, Whakatane, is a son.
