BRITAIN'S MEAT IMPORTS

EFFECT OF DECREASE

IMPORTERS' OPINION

LONDON, Feb. 17

Meat importers express the opinion that Australia and New Zealand will not be greatly affected by the British decision to import 3 pel.' cent less frozen mutton and lamb from those sources than last year.

Importers consider that it would be inopportune at the moment, in view of the international situation, to enter a protest, seeing that the British Government's policy is to assist the home producer, not at the consumer's expense, and seeing that the Government believes that it may be compelled in an emergency to rely for its meat supplies largely on animals in the homeland.
