OPEN ROWING REGATTA

FIXTURE AT NAPIER OUTSIDE < 'EDITS SUCCESS McLEOD WINS HANDICAP Three clubs, Wellington Star, Wanganui Union, and Napier, were the most successful at the open regatta staged on Saturday afternoon toy the Napier Rowing Club. Nine clubs were represented in the events, which were rowed on the Ngaruroro River, Clive. The prize-money was divided as follows:—'Star, £23: Wanganui Union, £l9; Napier, £l7; Petone, £4; Poverty Pay, £3; Aramoho, Gisborne, and 'Wellington, £1: Wanganui, nil. The Ngaruroro course was calm for the main part, there toeing a slight jobble on the water at the start of a few of 'the races. With his win in the handicap single sculling event, W. McLeod (Poverty Bay), was the only Gisborne representative to register a success. P. A. Gavin, the Gisborne club representative sculler, came near to hoisting his club's flag at the finish of the maiden sculling event, but K. May (Star) lasted the distance better. The Gisborne welter-weight crew in the junior division was placed fourth in 'that event, and was only lengths from the leaders. A like distance separated the Gisborne juniors, stroked by A. F.
