THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast General Situation: Pressure remains high over New Zealand but a shallow depression is advancing across the Tasman and a deeper one is centred off the south Queensland coast. Forecast: Winds north-east to northerly light to moderate and freshening, a change to southcrlies advancing over the South Island tonight and to-morrow morning. Seas, in New Zealand waters, slight to moderate rising north of East Capo and later in Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman: Moderate and strong north-easterly winds turning southerly later in the southern portion- seas, rather rough to roughWeather: Fair to line at first but with increasing cloud later. Some showers or drizzling rain probable in the far northern -and southern districts, exlending along the Fast Coast. Temperatures: Warm to hot, but cooler later in the south. To-day's North Island Report Overcast conditions were reporter: his morning at Auckland. Taurang:. and Fast Cape, but blue skies prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light southerly breezes were blowing at Napier and East Cape and light to moderate north-easterlies elsewhere. The barometer showed little movement during the week-end. Temperature-, at 9 o'clock were: Auckland 67 degrees, Tauranga 68, Opotiki and Wellmgto.i 66 East Cape 63, Gisborne 65. and Napier 69. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere.
