SPANISH TOWN TAKEN ADVANCE OF 25 MILES ARREST OF BRITONS CONSULAR BAG INCIDENT (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Jan. 3, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 2. The Saragossa correspondent of the British United Press says that 20,000 Spanish rebels stormed Juncosa, midway 'between Borjas Blancas and Falset, achieving an advance of 25 miles and halving the distance to Tarragona. A .Barcelona message states that loyalists on the east front are satisfied with the results of to-day’s battles, declaring that the Nationalists, despite an overwhelming advance in munitions, can launch only large-scale attacks on the smallest sectors, this constantly endangering their Hanks. Reuter's correspondent at Burgos states that Nationalist military police are reported to have arrested Ernest Golding, the British pro-consul at San Sebastian and also his wife, supposedly as a sequel to the inquiry into the theft of the consular postbag on December 22. The diplomatic correspondent o£ The Times says that apparently no charge has been preferred against Mr. Golding, nor is the news of his arrest confirmed.
A Hendaye correspondent of the Daily Telegraph confirms the report of the arrest of Mr. and Mrs. Golding which occurred in the absence of the vice-consul, Mr. Goodman, at Saint Jean de Luz, where the British Embassy had not been notified officially. The news caused a surprise, because Mr. Golding enjoys the full status of a British representative.
