TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE EVERY SECTION ADVANCES The telegraphic and telephone business of the Post Office during November provided ample evidence of brisk business conditions in the Dominion, a substantial t advance being made in every section compared with the figures for November, 1937. Telephone exchange connections reached a total of 154,303• through '.he addition of 716 more subscribers than the number of relinquishments during the month, and the expansion in this.
respect for 12 months represents 9741 additional subscribers.
Telegraphic business shared in the month's activity, the number of messages handled being 417,713; an increase of 21,050 on the figure for November, 1937. Telephone toll messages now regularly exceed a million and a quarter each month, the November total having been 1,297,723, or 88,177 in excess of the business during the corresponding month of the previous year. The use of the telephone to overseas points also showed expansion during the month, with 137 outi ward calls and 16(1 received. The increase in the radio-telephone Calls originating in New Zealand was 22.32 , per cent compared with November, I 1937.
