THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast General Situation: Pressure is rising over the Dominion under the influence of an anti-cyclone of moderate intensity, which is approaching across the central Tasman.

Forecast: Winds west to south-west prevailing, strong at first in some ex-

posed positions but decreasing and, otherwise, light to moderate, a change to north-west probable in places about and south of Cook Strait, during, tomorrow. Seas: In New , Zealand waters rather rough to rough on the west coast and in (he far south, but decreasing and, elsewhere, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman: Light to moderate winds between west and south-west, .seas slight to moderate. By comparison with yesterday's, today's barometric readings from various North Island stations showed little variation, and temperatures remained fairly even, with Napier returning the highest reading, at 70 degrees, and other reports ranging down to 59 at Wellington. Southerly winds pre-

vailed north of East Cape, and northeasterlies at most points south, winds being gentle at nearly all points, though Wellington reported a strong breeze from the horllwoasl, Auckland, Napier, and Cape Patliser had blue skies,'.and olher stations were cloudy to 'overcast, but with excellent visibility generally, and smooth to moderate seas everywhere except at Cape Maria, where there was a heavy swell.
