The Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, arrived in Gisborne yesterday from Napier, in the course of a holiday tour which later will include a visit tb Taupo. He is accompanied toy Mrs. Martin and their younger daughter, Miss Daisy Martin, and will remain in Gisborne until Monday. His party are guests at the Masonic Hotel. Mrs. E. Grey and family, accompanied by Mrs. A. Bielski, Whakatutu, are spending the school vacation at the Kaiti Beach. Chief Judge K. N. Jones, of the Native Land Court, who has. been visiting Gisborne during the Christmas holidays, left to-day for Hawke’s Bay, where he will spend the New Year with his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Curran, Poukawa. This morning’s passengers by Union Airways’ service from Gisborne to Napier were:—Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Greenwood; Mesdames C. Suckling, E. li. Oldridge, E. Crafts and G. Porter and infant; Miss W. Murray; Master C. Oldridge; Messrs. N. B. Suckling and P. Bennett. Inward passengers yesterday were:—Palmerston NorthGisborne—Mr. C. Whitten. NapierGisborne. —Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Campbell; Mesdames Lewin and G. Watt; Miss B. Campbell and D. Howard; Master Lewin; Mr. D. Symes. .Advice has been received by Mr. Chas. Blackburn that his son, Dr. Vivian Blackburn, has been accepted for service with the Indian Medical Service. He will take up his duties after a (furlough, part of which will be spent in New Zealand. Dr. Blackburn has j.usit completed five years’ commission in the medical branch of the Royal Air Force, and recently added to his qualifications the London diploma of public health. He is expected to reach New Zealand in February on furlough, his sailing from London having been fixed for January 5. Miss J. Iris Martin, a daughter of the Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, has .taken up an appointment as tutor sister at the Cook Hospital. Miss Martin has just returned from abroad, having spent two years in the study of nursing technique in Britain and on the Continent. Returning to New Zealand by way of the United States and Canada, she was the guest for some time of the American Nursing Association, through which organisation Miss Martin was enabled to visit leading medical institutions and thus further enlarge her experience. A number of leading Canadian institutions were also included in her itinerary. Miss Martin was formerly on the staff of the Wellington Hospital for 10 years.
