NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT 1938 CHANGE OF VENUE FIXTURE AT TOKOMARU BAY (Special to the Herald.) TOKOMARU BAY. this day. This season sees a change of venue for the annual lawn tennis tournament previously held at Waipiro Bay, the *iew location being Tokomaru Bay, where club members have been preparing with keen interest for the first big holiday fixture of this kind held in the township. Courts allocated for the tournament are in excellent condition, and it is anticipated that they will withstand the four days’ wear well, no pains having beeu spared in preparing them for the trial. A number of players who look part in the Poverty Bay and East Coast Association’s tournament in Gisborne also will take part in the Tokomaru Bay fixture, these including R. Richardson, winner of the men’s title in Gisborne, Cranswick and Heremia, runners-up in the men’s, doubles title section'.'and Miss L. Karautia, Winner of the women’s singles championship. Players should note that the rule regarding the scratching of players who are not ready when called will be strictly adhered to. Play commences at noon to-morrow and at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. All the games possible will be played to-morrow afternoon.
