DISTRICT TOURNAMENT WINNERS FOR TO-DAY, SHONE GETS TWO SECTIONS Keen interest in the closing stages of the Poverty Bay and East Coast Lawn Tennis Association’s annual championship and handicap tournament was shown to-day by a large gallery, which gave its special attention to the women’s singles final, in which Miss M. Allan met the young Maori player, Miss L. Karauti. At mid-day Miss Karauti was leading by one set, and was two games up in the second. Chrisp and Shorland won the men’s doubles final, completed last evening, beating their opponents, Kaua and Burdett, in straight sets. A. Shone, winner of the boys’ singles final and winner with G. Graham of the boys’ doubles, also added a win in the men’s handicap singles, in which he beat J. Heremia in the final. The women’s doubles title fell to Mrs. Baigent and Miss Allan, who defeated the Maori partners, Misses Wehepeihana and Karauti, in a hardfought final match.
