CHRISTMAS IN SYDNEY
TRADE UP TO STANDARD LESS SPENDING POWER (Reed. Dec. 24, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 23. Christmas shopping in Sydney is perhaps not a record; nevertheless, it is well up to the standard of the best years. The city streets yesterday and to-day were thronged, completely disorganising traffic.
The opinions of some businessmen indicate that the spending power of the public this year is restricted, owing to*the unsettled conditions at Home and abroad. There is a noticeable tendency on the part of a: large percentage of shoppers to husband their resources in view of the uncertain outlook.
