MOTORING ACCIDENTS

MISHAPS IN GISBORNE TRAFFIC MAN'S MYSTERY ALLEGED STOLEN CAR The Gisfborne (police were kept moderately busy last night and early this morning taking reports of accidents, but the most unusual case was that of an allegedly' stolen car that was recovered at Matawhero. While patrolling in Awapuni road at 10.45 p.m. yesterday, a traffic officer signalled the driver of an approaching car to dip his lights. The signal was not obeyed and the officer gave chase to inquire the reason from the driver. As soon as- the officer sounded his siren the other vehicle stopped, but before the officer returned the driver had apparently taken fright and abandoned the car. Although he waited for some time, the officer found no trace of the. driver, and later he took possession of the vehicle, which was taken to the police station. The car was found to belong tc Mrs. R. Brown, Andrew street, and was being driven last evening by her son, Mr. E. J. Brown. Mr. Brown had parked the vehicle in Palmerston road, and when he returned at 12.10 a.m. it was not to be seen. Accident in Stout Street ' Shortly before 11 p.m. yesterday a collision occurred in Stout street, between a light lorry driven by Mr. John Thomas Harvey, Parikanapa, and two women cyclists. The two women fell to the ground heavily and it was fortunate that they escaped with minor bruises and shock. Their bicycles were damages, but they were able to walk to their home without assistance. Three Cars Collide at Wainui There was an accident of an unusual nature at 3 a.m. to-day on the Gisborne-Tolaga Bay road at Wainui, three vehicles being damaged. Although there were several people involved in the three cars none suffered injury. Two vehicles outward bound from Gisiborne were travelling fairly close together and the third was 'approaching Gisborne. The car travelling south came into collision with the first of the north-bound vehicles and glanced off to hit the following car. Tires blew out on all three vehicles, and the one travelling towards Gisborne received damage to its axle and a wheel.
