TEACHERS' WORK
"HOLIDAYS NECESSARY"
"I flunk if is worth while saying that few people realise how much time and energy schoolmasters spend in their work," said the principal of Scots College, Mr. K. W. R. Glasgow, MjA., M.Sc, in the course of his annual report at the prize-giving ceremony 'at Wellington. "I estimate that the average assistant in this college is occupied for at least 45 hours per week in the purely routine teaching, sports and administrative work," ho said. "This does not include any preparation, reading, and correcting work, which occupies many an evening hour. "The holidays, long though they are, are necessary for teachers no less than for pupils. The mother of even a small family can well imagine that. Modern, education is making ever-increasing demands on the patience, initiative, resourcefulness, and nervous energy of the teacher.
