CHRISTMAS PARTY

W.L'S TENTH BIRTHDAY (iWnld Correspomli'iit.) The Nuhaka Women's Institute held its Christmas party in Unity Hall, there being a fair attendance of members and their children. This was also the institute's tenth birthday. In the absence of the president, who was unable to attend, Mrs. W. Houston and Mrs. G. B. Steele, vice-presi-dents, officiated. A beautiful birthday cake made by Miss K. Montcath. Kotemaori, who was the institute's first secretary, was cut and the 10 candles blown out. Each child present was the recipient of a Christmas gift. The evening was mostly spent in games and competitions which were thoroughly mjoved. A bounteous supper was dispensed. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Lewis, Tahaenui, in the death of their sixth son, Alec, aged 11 years. The deceased, who was a bright lad, was taken ill suddenly. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. .T. G. Laughton. Whakatane. all senior pupils of the Nuhaka Native School attending. Work is well in hand for the forthcoming Nuhaka A. and P. Show. At a meeting on Thursday, the president of the association, Mr. PI. R. Hickling, moved a vote of condolence with Mr. A. T. Glenny, Mrs. S. Black, and Mr. M. R. Shaw in then' recent bereavements.

Shearing has been much hampered in Nuhaka by the showery conditions Several farmers report that they will not finish until the' new year.

Mr. and Mrs. James Duley have left to visit Tauranga and Auckland. —Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Woodlcy, accompanied by Miss Jameson. Te Karaka, are visiting Waikaremoana— Miss I. McKenzie is spending a holiday in Auckland.—Mrs. G. B. Steele is visiting her sister, Mrs. 11, George. Gisborne.

Miss E. Halliwell is visiting Te Araroa for the Christmas vacation.— Miss Dover is spending Christinas in Gisborne.—Mr. and Mrs. F. Hankin are visitors to Auckland for the Christmas holidays, which will be spent with Mr. Hankin's relatives.- - Mr. M. Begley Ls visiting his uncle in Hastings, Mr. F. Jameson, Morere, who recently met with an accident whilst drafting cattle, has returned from the Wairoa Hospital, where he has been a patient. Mr. J. F. Gillies, of the Nuhaka Postal staff, is on his annual leave.— Mr. IT. Hammond is visiting his relatives in Hastings for Christmas.—Mr. Ken Turner is spending the holidays with relations in Napier.—Miss Mary Tait has returned from lona College l o spend the holidays at her home at Morere. Mr. lan Shaw is spending the Christmas holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Shaw, "M-au-makai."
