OBITUARY
Mil. JOHN I'. MORRIS The deuOh occurred in the Cook Hospital test night of Mr. John Phillip Morris after an illness lasting two months. Mr. Morris, who was born in England 51 years ago, came to Now Zealand 'in 1901, and to Gisborne following his arrival. He was engaged in driving 'horses for various firms in the town, -and in 1917 he enlisted, leaving New Zealand in April, 1917. and serving with the First Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. He transferred later to the machine gun corps
Following his return to Gisborne after serving for 2 A years in the army, Mr. Morris continued his em-ploy-merit as a driver, and for the past 12 years was in the service of the" Borough Council. He was s> member of the Kahutia Bowling CluV and a orbminent member of t'he Druids Lodge.
The widow and t'hrec younp children are left to mourn their loss but pipant from them Mr, Morris ha-d no living relatives. The intermen' place at the Soldiers' Plot a' the Taruheru cemetery this afternoon, following a short service -at Coclirane's private chapel.
Mr A. E. Grindrod, one of the best known legal clerks in Auckland, died this week. He had served with the firm of Messrs. Hesketh and Richmond and its successors since April 12, 1880, so that he had the remarkable record of carrying on his duties for the same employers in the samebuilding for over 58 years.
There passed away in Auckland recently another of Hawke's Bay's oldest identities in the person of Mr. William .John Neal, late of Maraekakaho. 'He was 80 years of age at Bolinge, Cornwall, England, Mr. Neal came to New Zealand in Mie sailing ship Euterpre, bringing out stud horses for the late Sir Douglas McLean, in whose employ he remained until the sub-division of the Maraekakaho station.
