PIGEON RACING
P.B. SOCIETY EVENT FLIGHT FROM MASTEETON OLD-BIRD SEASON CLOSING The Poverty Bay Central Homing Pigeon Society flew a single-up race from Masterton last week-end, this being the last but one of the events of the old-bird season, which closes this week with a flight from Dunedin for the long-distance championship.
The race drew an entry of eight birds, which were released at 10minute intervals. The air-line distance was 202 miles, and first home was R. Hall’s Desert Speed, with a velocity of 1125.4yd5. per minute. This bird finished the flight 38min. ahead of the field, having been liberated an hour after the first bird had started the journey. Details of the results were as under:—R. Hall’s Desert Speed, velocity 1125.4yd5, per minute; A. MeLaughlan’s entry, 1002.2yd5., 2; T. Crosby’s entry, 1000yds. 3; R. flail’s Regent Queen, 958.6yd5., 4; M. Quinn’s Nocturnus, 938.3yd5., 5; J. McLean’s entry, 897.5yd5., 6.
