Snags in River. Attention to some large snags in the Waimata River underneath • the William Pettie bridge was drawn by Cr. H. E. Maude at last night's meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council, and authority was given for their removal. Macrae Bath The attendances at the Macrae Bath have been fairly well maintained considering that the weather has not been very favourable for bathers. Attendances, no doubt, will increase when the schools close at the end of this week. The bath is now open from 9 a.m. to noon and from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. daily. Kaiti Hill Koad The dangerous condition of the Kaiti Hill road after the recent wet weather made it necessary to close the road until gravel surfacing could be carried out, stated the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, at last night's meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council. Mr. Thomas added that the road was again open for traffic.

Motor Collision Case A claim for £25 Is as damages arising out of a collision between a motor-cycle and a car at the intersection of Peel street and ■ Palmerston road was heard by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The claim was made by Charles W. Green, (Mr. W. Kohn), rider of the motor-cycle, against John Twigley (Mr. E. T. Brosnahan), driver Of the car, the plaintiff alleging that the defendant failed to observe the righthand rule. Giving judgment for the defendant, the magistrate held tha as the car was on the intersection first, the driver was not requires f give way to the motor-cycle and that the motor-cycle was travelling too fast.

Precautions Against Fire Precautions against fire have been taken by the Gisborne Borough Council on the Kaiti Hill reserve. Reporting to the council last night, the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, stated" that the area was in good order. Fennel and thistles; not destroyed by sheep had- been cut. "The sheep turned in some time ago have done good work in keeping down undesirable herbage of a nature that would ordinarily dry out and leave a great deal of highly inflammable material behind," Mr. Thomas added.
