France and New Zealand
Sir,—ln your issue of December 12 your leader makes comparisons with the economic situation here and in France. The French Popular Front Government was definitely predestined to failure, in its attempt to improve the conditions in industry, while adhering to the orthodox system of finance. How could a system that had caused the economic slavery of a people possibly remedy it? The essential feature of good government is equitable treatment to all, and no representatives of the people of any country can accomplish this end, while others control its life blood, its credit. This fact was shown to Mr. Savage prior xo his forming a Government, and he made it quite plain then, and again later when contesting the last election, when he stated that no interference would come from the Government if private enterprise would do the job. The future of New Zealand is in other hands than those of France, and she is about to walk a totally different path, so that to make comparisons is rather futile. SERIOUS.
