LANDING BY JAPANESE THREAT TO CANTON CUTTING <>[•' SITN.IKS SWAY IN NORTH WANING (Elee. Tel. Copyright United Press Assn.) i, Heed. Oct. 12, 3 p.m.) LONDON. Oct. 11. Reports reaching Honk Kong from areas in North China occupied by the Japanese, especially the Shantung province, indicate that the garrisons .are rapidly losing control of the entire countryside. It is said that the only cities remaining hi Japanese hand- are Weihaiwei and Chefoo. Hong Kong also reports that a large Japanese' force from 30 transports made a landing at llacung in i'.ias Bay.
The landing is reported to have been eil'ected al 4.30 a.m. local time, after shelling the shore and islands in the vicinity. It is believed that the Japanese are aiming at cutting the Kowloon-Canton raiiway dominating the Canton River mouth in order to cut off the supplies from Canton.
A .report from Hankow states that the Chinese bombed from the air
800 Japanese survivors ol the battle west of Tehan. The survivors are desperately holding out in the hilL 10 miles from Tehan.
