Labour and Social Credit
Sir, —May I endeavour to answer a few questions asked by your correspondent, Mr. Harry Hunt? Labour was not committed to Douglas credit in any way. The leaders have preached, and still do preach, money reform ana steps in this direction have already toeen taken and more will be taken. I cannot agree that Douglas social credit is the only solution. Your correspondent refers to the Communist movement as the only real socialist organisation in New Zealand. Socialism and communism mean two totally different things. Regarding his reference to the feeding of the British populace, I do not intend to enter into a controversy on this point, but I think he might 'be interested in the fact that the "British Committee Against Malnutrition" has just issued a statement and recommendation entitled "Towards a National Food Policy." This is fully endorsed toy most of the leading experts, including Sir Jno. Orr. This committee, strange to say, is proposing to "copy" the Russian innovations in many directions and it further adds, "food should toe as easily available to everyone as the water supply. The problem might as well toe solved immediately since there is no reason to assume that it will be easier to solve in 10 or 50 or even 100 years time. If we refuse to take action we imply that we are content in perpetuity to have a community well toelow the level of health and efficiency. LABOUR.
