DIOCESAN VISIT

BISHOP LISTON’S TOUR CONFIRMATION SERVICE CATHOLIC “CORONATION” On a visit to the Poverty Bay and East Coast portion of his extensive diocese, the Catholic Bisiiop of Auckland, the Rt. Rev.. Dr. Liston, arrived in Gisborne during the week-end, and last evening conferred the sacrament of confirmation upon 101. children and 15 adults, the service taking place at St. Mary’s Church, Lowe street. ' The occasional service was preached by His Lordship, who will continue his tour to-morrew, conferring confirmation on candidates gathered at Tolaga Bay and Ruatoria during the week. This evening His,Lordship will be in attendance at the City Hall, Gisborne, where the Catholic queen carnival coronation ceremony and ball will be held. The ceremony of coronation will commence at 8 o’clock, and admittance to the function will be by invitation. It will be the first occasion upon which such a function in Gisborne will have had the honour of the presence of Bishop Liston, and an energetic committee has made every effort to ensure that the coronation and the accompanying ball will prove the success which such an honour merits. Interest evinced by many people outside the fold of Catholicism as well as among the Catholic members of the community, seems already to promise an outstanding.-success.
