Rifle Shooting Contests
A team of eight members of the local infantry platoon, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, has been practising of late in preparation for its forthcoming visit to Hawke’s Bay to compete in tlie annual rifle shooting contests for the Coleman Shield and Belt. The competition takes place on Labour Day, October 24, and the teams taking part will comprise representatives from various parts of the military district, area seven, which extends from the Wairarapa lo Poverty Bay and the East Coast.
Direct Action—But Not Yet “This is aiming at direct action, and nothing else,” stated Mr. H. F. Toogood, Wellington, describing to his audience in the Opera House last night the trend of big-union policy, which he claimed was aimed _at eventual command of industries without. reference to the Arbitration Court. "Big Jim Roberts knows that it means direct action,” added Mr. Toogood, "but he Is soft-pedalling Inc business at present. He does not want to have it brought out before tlie elections. He says, and knows, that the time is not yet ripe for cutting away from arbitration and taking charge of industry by sheer force."
