FRANCO PROTESTS
BELLIGERENT RIGHTS DENIAL EY POWERS REPUBLICAN VOLUNTEERS EVACUATION “FAROE” (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 11. 2 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 10. A message from Burgos states that claiming with the repatriation of 10,000 volunteers there was no reason for denying nationalist Spain belligerent rights, General Franco said in an interview that it was a tremendous injustice that such rights were not recognised in two years of war. Despite the unique circumstance 11 nations, including two of the greatest, recognised the Nationalist Government dc jure and 10 others de facto, while official relations were maintained with 14 others.
General Franco claimed that Nationalist Spain had more than fulfilled all the requirements historically sanctioned by international law. Discussing the question of the Republican volunteers, General Franco described the announcement of their evacuation as “just another farce presented to the world.” He said that there remained approximately GO,OOO, although 5000 had fallen and many fled from the “red inferno." General Franco said in regard to mediation: “There cannot be any other end to the war than unconditional surrender.” He claimed that the National revolution was carrying out the just aspirations of the lower and middle classes and was saving a menaced civilisation.
