CRICKETERS GATHER

EX-STUDENTS' CLUB AWAITING NEW SEASON Satisfaction with the position of the club for the start of the new season was expressed on Wednesday by Mr. J. Crawford-Smith, the chairman at the annual meeting of the Gisborne High School Old Boys' Cricket Club. There was an attendance of 40 mem'bers. The credit balance was small, but the club had sufficient first-class equipment for three competition teams, said the chairman. The outlay on gear this season would be small and it was expected that the finances of the club would be healthier at the next annual meeting. There were no outstanding subscriptions.

The report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. J. H. Hutton; president, Mr S. K. White; vice-presidents, Messrs J. J. Jolly, H. F. Forster, W. J. Jennings, T. Sharp, T. W. Wells and Dr. F. Kahlenberg; secretary-treasurer, Mr. A. C. Wilson; honorary auditor, Mr. J. M. Kay; club captain, Mr. D. A. Wells; delegates to P.B.C.A. annual meeting, Messrs A. C. Wilson, W. J. Wilkie, and R. T. Porter; management committee, Messrs. G. E. Slade, W. J. Wilkie, R. T. Porter, the captain of each team, and the club captain and secretary. It was decided to enter one senior A grade team and two senior B grade teams in 'the competitibns.

No change was made in the subscriptions for the season.The secretary was instructed to write to the Poverty Bay Cricket Umpires' Association, complimenting it on the work of the umpires, and to the women's committee in charge of the afternoon tea arrangements.

Following the decision to apply for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings for practice, the chairman stressed the importance of practice to players. It was decided that this phase of the work should be strictly supervised in the future, fielding, as well as batting and bowling practice, to toe undertaken by all players.
