BRITAIN AND EGYPT
REVISION OF TREATY FINANCIAL PROVISIONS (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.40 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 4. An official communique regarding the Egyptian and British talks states that conversations took place with the Prime Minister of Egypt, Mahmoud Pasha, regarding certain financial provisions in the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty .of Alliance, 193 C. JVI-ahmoud Pasha represented that the cost to Egypt of providing the accommodation required under the provisions of the treaty concerned turned out to be greatly in excess of the estimate formed at the time of the signinn of the treaty. An aereement was initialled to-day of which the principal effect will be that Britain agrees to raise its contribution to one half of the cost of the construction of the accommodation for land and air forces, water and electric supplies and amenities and a convalescent camp and dwellings for the civilian personnel for the British forces. The agreement which was initialled by the Foreign Secretary, Yiscount Halifax, and Mahmoud Pasha, will, after being signed, be subject to ratification by the Egyptian and BritishParliaments and will be later published as a White Paper. Mahmoud Pasha left to-day for Egypt.
