RACING TAXATION
TURF CLUB MEETING £847 PAID TO THE STATE Taxation paid to the State by the Poverty Bay Turf Club following its steeplechase meeting last week will total £847 lis 4d. Totalisator duty will yield £382 Is 2d. From dividends, the State's proportion will be £417 12s. Stakes tax levied on the winnings of individual owners will take £l6 16s sd, and amusement tax, paid on admission revenue, will account for a further £3l Is 4d. The wet weather which marred the meeting to some extent for the spectators had a serious effect on the financial outcome of the fixture for the club. The payments to the State are well below the average for winter meetings in Gisborne, which, hpwever, have been held in the past on the Park course.
