TILL RISING OF COURT
SENTENCE ON MAORIS SECURED STOCK SOLD (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. Two Maori prisoners who were found guilty of having disposed of stock held under security, without the authority of the grantee and having thus defrauded the grantee, had the unusual experience of being sentenced by Mr. Justice Fair in the Supreme Court to-day to imprisonment till the rising of the court—a matter of a few minutes. They were Emma Tupe, aged 20, and her father. Nau Tupe, aged 69, of Kaeo, North Auckland. . The charge related to the sale ot cows, but it was pointed out that the money was used to .buy horses which became a security for the grantee. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr. V. R. Meredith, said ,he doubted whether the prisoners would have been convicted if they had had counsel.
