Two Bronze Age canoes have been found intact in the bed of the River Trent. The ancient Waddell, McLeod and Weir timber mill, in Johnston street, has been demolished, removing yet another old landmark from the centie of Wellington. The fine baulks ot kauri timber, which served as principals in the mill building, were saved. They are now stored at th e corporation yards, to be used f° r joinery work in the future. The root, which was in good order, is being used in connection with the erection of a barn for the accommodation ot City Council cars.
