TARANAKI OIL SEARCH

SURVEY PARTY COMPLETE

With the arrival of the third geologist, Mr. B. Stinnear, the New Zealand Petroleum Company's Taranaki geological survey party has reached Us full complement of seven.

The first stage in the company's search for oil in Taranaki is now in fuUswing in the Ohura district. "We're hard at it," said Mr. A. A. Weymouth, who is supervising the work, when interviewed in New Plymouth. •Until Mr. Stinnear'? arrival there had been two parties of twoeach with a geologist and surveyorworking in the Ohura district. Mr. Stinnear and his surveyor bring the total of the New Zealand Petroleum Company's men with Mr. Weymouth, to seven.

. Mr. Stinnear was until recently assistant geologist for Standard-Vacuum iniPapua. The two other geologists working in Taranaki are Mr. J. M. Dorreen, of Canterbury University, and Mr. D. Bossard. The geological survey is progressing; slowly but steadily in the Ohura district.

"It's going to be a long job," said Mr. Weymouth. Work in this district is, on account of the more hidden nature of the underlying earth structure, .essentially slower than in the Gisborne district, where a bore is expected to be sunk next month. ,Mr. Weymouth stated that the geological survey would begin at Ohura apd cover territory south to Whangamomona and south again.
