MANAWATU PROTEST
SHIELD MATCH DELAY

PALMERSTON N., this day. The Manawatu Rugby Union decided last evening to protest to the New Zealand Union against the Manawatu challenge for the Ranfurly Shield being put back to September 24 by the Otago union. The president, Mr. A. M. Ongley, said it was now laid down that challenges shall follow the shield. He maintained that Manawalu's challenge which had been accepted by Southland for August 13 should be honoured by Otago on the latter date.
