OPENING OF CONVENTION
Reed. August 3, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, August 2
Flags of all nations symbolising the unity of the Christian Endeavour movement decorated the exhibition building last night when the tenth world convention of the Christian Endeavour Union was opened in the presence of about B,o*oo people. More than 2,000 delegates from all parts of Australia and overseas are taking part in the sessions. The world president, Dr. Daniel Poling, of Philadelphia, in a message before the proceedings commenced, said; "We believe that the sessions will provide a message of hope to a troubled world. In the proceedings emphasis 'will be laid upon all that which unites and saves—never upon that which divides or destroys."
A feature of the opening last night was the lighting of the convention multiple torch, comprising 20 torches, one for each country represented, which will burn on the platform throughout the convention.
