Drinking at Dances
Si]% —We were interested to read that "Spectator" was pleased by the firm heel placed on ladies, (net gentlemen) who wished to leave the' Te Karaka Hall to- partake of a \ drink during the dance on Wednes-, day. Quite recently we attended P.! public dance in Gisborne and actually participated in the dancing, which, "Spectator" must admit produces more of a thirst than looking on, and we were delighted to see that scarcely a'lady, present showed any desire to leave the hall. There was no rule to keep them inside, should they have desired a stroll in the cool night air, but, owing to the delightful spirit of gaiety pervading the hall, no one, lady or gentleman, showed any inclination to wander. Apparently enforced rules are not always necessary.—Yours, etc. THE SCOT AND THE JEW.
